What Happens When You Get Caught in HUSH: They Can Hear? Loot Loss and What Survives

Get caught in HUSH: They can hear and you lose everything you carried on that run — except your safe pocket. Here's what's gone, what survives into your next run, and how to bank a haul safely.

Quick answer

Get caught in HUSH: They can hear and you lose everything you carried on that run. The game's own inventory screen puts one exception on it: you lose all you carry but your safe pocket. Loot already stored in your stash at base is not carried, so it survives into your next run.

  • Lost when caught: your whole carried load for that run — backpack loot, guns in slots 1 and 2, throwables in G.
  • Kept: whatever is in your safe pocket, per the game's rule text.
  • Kept: haul you already banked in your base stash.

Caught means the run's haul is gone

The official game description is blunt about the stakes: if you get caught by the monsters, you lose everything you carried during that run. The INVENTORY screen at base repeats the same rule in plainer terms: "Guns in slots 1 and 2, throwables in G. Get caught and you lose all you carry but your safe pocket."

What capture costs you is that one run — everything on your character at that moment. The haul you were working through houses, shops, the hospital and the army camp is forfeit, and a run's value is only realized once you're out safely. The walk to an exit isn't an afterthought; it's the part of the run where your loot becomes yours.

The safe pocket is the one exception

The same screen names the exception: your safe pocket. Whatever it holds is still yours after a capture, while the rest of the carried load goes. That makes it the only spot on your character the game promises survives — everything else you're holding is a gamble every time you push deeper.

What you keep vs. what you lose

Outcome when caughtWhat it applies to
LostEverything you carried that run: backpack loot, guns in slots 1 and 2, throwables in G
KeptYour safe pocket, per the inventory screen's rule text
Not part of the lossLoot already stored in your base stash — the rule covers "all you carry", and the same screen tracks CARRYING and BACKPACK separately from STASH

How to actually cash a run in

  1. Loot your route through the houses, shops, the hospital and the army camp. Our best loot locations page covers where to focus.
  2. Get out while you still hold it. In one recorded run, the player called extraction by pressing E at the Farm Track exit post — the post lamp turned red and a countdown started — waited for the EVAC truck, then held EXTRACT at the cargo terminal. The doors shut, a +1 skill point toast appeared, and the run ended with "YOU MADE IT OUT — Through the Farm Track." Exit names and timings vary between runs; the full options are in the escape guide.
  3. Bank the haul at base. The INVENTORY screen there shows your CREDITS, CARRYING, BACKPACK and STASH, with a STORE ALL button for moving carried loot into the stash.
  4. Sell from the stash. In the HUSH SUPPLY shop's SELL tab, items sell out of the stash with SELL 1, SELL ALL and SELL ALL JUNK buttons, and your credits rise with each sale. That haul is what funds guns, gear, gold guns and diamonds from the only shop left — see the shop location page.

Treat every extra room as a bet against everything you're carrying. A half-full backpack you walk out with beats a full one the monsters take — and if staying unheard is the hard part, the tips and tricks guide covers moving quietly, while the beginner guide walks through the whole loop from first run to first payout.
